Ithaca Airport Maintenance & Headquarters Building
Azar Design Co delivered architectural and structural design for NYSDOT’s new sub-residency building as part of the Upstate Airport Economic Development and Revitalization plan at the Ithaca Airport. The project moved operations of existing facilities to a new 10+ acre site. The new headquarters modifies a prefab building to incorporate additions that accommodate the county’s dynamic needs.
The new building provides adequate vehicle storage for 10 trucks, loader, and tow plow, with one additional double mechanical bay and truck washing bay. Amenities provide four offices, a lunch and break room for 30 people, storage rooms, toilet/showers and locker rooms, with additional space housing mechanical and electrical systems.
Azar’s structural engineers designed and prepared plans for the foundation and supporting members to tie in the prefab structure. Structural challenges were addressed by tying one side to the other with heavy bars to accommodate size and load. Additional structural components include the foundation, beams, posts and columns for a prefab cold storage pole barn on site.
