Tahawus Bridge Replacement
Remote Infrastructure in the Adirondack Park
Essex County consulted Azar Design Co to replace a failing bridge located in the Town of Newcomb. The locally administered, federally-funded project required removal and replacement of the original bridge spanning the Hudson River, a successful effort though our team of multidisciplinary experts in engineering, surveying, environmental science, and construction inspection.
A hydraulic analysis was performed to ensure 2’ of freeboard was maintained with the new bridge. Design Engineers maintained the existing horizontal alignment, with slight modification of the vertical alignment to accommodate hydraulics. Roadside ditches conveyed surface water, so a closed drainage system was not required. Final design included new signage, striping and guiderail reset.
