A Renovation for Visitor Growth
The Explore & More Children’s Museum is a key component in the development of the Buffalo Inner Harbor as a cultural hub and a year-round community destination. Accommodating increasing visitation, Azar Design Co worked with Explore & More and Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation on an interior build out that improves security, flow, and exhibition space.
An increasingly popular destination in Western New York, Buffalo’s Canalside district is a celebration of the city’s natural resources and its adaptation through the years as an industrial leader through modern engineering. Azar worked closely with the core/shell and exhibit design teams throughout the renovation to deliver new space programming for workflows, activities, and special events that maintain the Museum’s status – a cornerstone that recalls the historic buildings of the Inner Harbor with a modern interpretation of space and aesthetics.
Our team prepared documents and specifications for interiors, security, signage, building systems, and cost estimates for each. Additional design services for the front entrance and gift shop redesign brought lower level party rooms with moveable partitions, expanded exhibition space throughout the building, modified privacy/mother’s rooms, and new activity/rental spaces.
The project was successfully fast-tracked during construction to decrease the museum’s down time through tight project management and coordination with the Contractor for the aggressive construction schedule.
Azar’s Building Systems team delivered mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection for the new conference and meeting room, multi-use spaces, and the main entrance and ticket booth.
