Azar Design Co led a transformative community-based project in New York’s capital, creating a one-of-a-kind playground within Washington Park–a centerpiece of the historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The destination playground features innovative natural play elements designed to attract families from across the region. Guided by the park’s topography and ecology, the design utilizes materials that harmonize with the environment.
Close collaboration with the City of Albany, The Washington Park Conservancy, and the State Office of Historic Preservation ensured the playground enhances the historic and natural setting of Washington Park, reinforcing its role as a vibrant community asset.
Azar’s integrated Site/Civil Engineering and Landscape Architecture studio developed a design that integrates seamlessly with Washington Park’s natural landscape. Play elements are organized into zones that cater to all ages and abilities. Dedicated spaces for caretakers ensure comfort and convenience, making the playground a welcoming space for all.
