Central Utica Medical Building
Ambulatory Surgery Center
The new Central Utica Building Ambulatory Surgery Center provides state-of-the-art care in an outpatient setting, directly supporting adjacent Wynn Hospital. The newest addition to Utica’s medical core seeks to strengthen physician recruitment while bringing access to new technology and procedures to the area. This means fewer people will need to travel to larger cities for advanced care.
Azar Design Co provided design services for the new 3 floor, 92,000 sf medical building, fitted for multiple physician’s groups. Coordination was a critical factor in the project due to a highly complex nature of the design and building regulations involving both the building owner and the various tenants who occupy the spaces. The surgery suite contains four (4) operating rooms and space for two (2) future operating rooms.
Under multiple contracts, Azar delivered architectural, building systems engineering, structural coordination, and construction administration services for:
- Core and Shell for the owner of the building – Central Utica Building, LLC (CUB)
- Programming of medical suites and offices for Central New York Cardiology (CNYC)
- Programming for smaller and future out-patient tenants
Programming included imaging, phlebotomy, pharmacy, cariology, endoscopy, and neurology areas along with related office spaces. Our team provided phasing & enabling design, interior construction, equipment, and systems design services, as well as overall multidisciplinary coordination for both the building and the site.
Azar’s Building Systems Engineering team delivered plans for two rooftop AC units (air-cooled & packaged) with gas heat connected to medium pressure supply via VAV boxes and low-pressure return vertical duct risers. Additionally, two toilet exhaust fans were designed for the roof with connection to vertical duct risers with capped branch ducts in individual tenant spaces and group of restrooms on each floor.
