Azar Design Co is seeking a highly skilled Certified Door Hardware Consultant to serve as our primary technical expert for commercial, institutional, and large-scale architectural projects. In this role, the successful candidate will bridge the gap between design and physical security by collaborating directly with architects, general contractors, and facilities managers. The primary mission will be to detail, estimate, and review complex door opening solutions that balance aesthetic appeal with strict adherence to fire, life safety, and accessibility codes.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Consultation: Provide advanced product and design advice to project stakeholders from early schematic design phases through final building commissioning. · Document Review: Read and interpret highly detailed CSI MasterFormat Division 08 construction plans, elevations, floor plans, and shop drawings.
  • Code Compliance: Review and verify all door and frame configurations to ensure they meet regional and national fire protection (NFPA 80), life safety (NFPA 101), and accessibility (ADA) mandates.
  • Hardware Detailing: Create and verify comprehensive hardware schedules, master key systems, and access control integrations for intricate door openings.
  • Collaboration & Cloud Coordination: Coordinate spatial layouts and hardware tracking using collaborative, cloud-based platform software. Field Verification: Conduct on-site inspections, post-installation walkthroughs, and evaluations for facility renovation or retrofit projects.

Qualifications

  • Active Certification: Must hold a valid Door + Hardware Consultant (DHC) or Architectural Hardware Consultant (AHC) credential issued by the Door and Hardware Institute (DHI)· Industry Experience: Minimum of 2–4 years of direct experience detailing or estimating commercial doors, frames, and mechanical/electrified architectural hardware.
  • Code Fluency: Deep structural knowledge of model building codes, egress safety requirements, and fire-door assembly parameters.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience navigating specialized hardware scheduling software, specification writing programs, and basic digital drawing viewers.
  • Aptitude: Elite attention to detail with strong analytical capabilities to spot physical layout or electronic hardware component conflicts early.
  • Ability to travel periodically to active design/construction project sites and end-user facilities.
  • Ability to safely navigate active, unconditioned building environments during field checks.

Pay Range: $75,000 to $100,000 annually, depending on qualifications and related experience.
