Azar Design Co is leading a transformative project with the City of Albany to create a natural playground in Washington Park, a centerpiece of the historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Scheduled to break ground in 2025, this destination playground will feature innovative natural play elements designed to attract families from across the region.

Azar is providing landscape architecture and site/civil engineering services for a design that integrates seamlessly with Washington Park’s natural landscape. The playground will include engaging natural play elements organized into zones tailored to various ages and abilities. Dedicated spaces for caretakers will ensure comfort and convenience, making the playground a welcoming space for all.

Guided by the park’s topography and ecology, the design will utilize materials that harmonize with the environment. Close collaboration with the City of Albany, The Washington Park Conservancy, and the State Office of Historic Preservation will ensure the playground enhances the historic and natural setting of Washington Park, reinforcing its role as a vibrant community asset.
