Tompkins County Sub-Residency Building

© Azar Design Co

Azar Design Co, as a subconsultant under a NYSDOT Term (RDSA) contract, was charged with designing a new esthetically pleasing sub-residency building as part of the Upstate Airport Economic Development and Revitalization at the Ithaca Airport. The new building provides adequate vehicle storage for 10 trucks, loader, and tow plow, with one additional double mechanical bay and truck washing bay.  It also includes four offices, lunch and break room for 30 people, toilet/shower/locker rooms, storage rooms and mechanical/electrical rooms.

Our scope included survey, architectural design, structural foundation, steel and wood frame design. The proposed main headquarters was a prefab building that was modified with the incorporation of many additions. Azar’s structural engineers designed and prepared plans for the foundation and supporting members to tie in the prefab building.

Our engineers addressed structural challenges by tying one side to the other with heavy bars to accommodate size and load. Proximity of the sewer was taken into consideration while establishing footprint. Additional structural design included the foundation, beams, posts and columns for a prefab cold storage pole barn on site.
