Tahawus Bridge Replacement

© Azar Design Co

Essex County contracted Azar Design Co for the engineering design services related to the failing bridge located in the Town of Newcomb.

This locally administered, federally funded project involved removing and replacing the bridge which spans the Hudson River. Designers maintained the existing horizontal alignment and slightly modified the vertical alignment to accommodate hydraulics. A hydraulic analysis was performed to ensure 2’ of freeboard can be maintained with the new bridge. Roadside ditches conveyed surface water; a closed drainage system was not required. Design also included new signage, striping and guiderail reset.

The new bridge was delivered through a multidisciplinary team involving our Engineers, Surveyors, Environmental Scientists, and Construction Inspectors.
